Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal cancer care

Colorectal cancer services

We provide surgical treatment for colon and rectal cancer in coordination with gastroenterology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, and pathology whenever your case benefits from a multidisciplinary plan.

We provide surgical care for patients with colon and rectal cancer, from diagnosis through treatment planning and recovery. That includes management of polyps and early lesions identified at screening, as well as larger cancers requiring segmental colon resection, rectal resection, or combined approaches when appropriate. Your plan is developed in coordination with gastroenterology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, and pathology when multidisciplinary input is needed.

Whenever possible, we use minimally invasive techniques—including laparoscopic and, when indicated, robotic-assisted approaches—to complete the same oncologic operation with the goal of accurate staging, clear margins, and appropriate lymph node assessment. The exact operation depends on tumor location, stage, your overall health, and your preferences after a thorough discussion of benefits and risks.

Screening and surveillance remain central to reducing the impact of colorectal cancer. If you have a new diagnosis, a concerning polyp, or a family history that changes your risk, we welcome referrals and consultation. Call (509) 747-2326 to schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

Surgical care is tailored to tumor location and stage. It may include removal of part of the colon or rectum with appropriate lymph node assessment and, when needed, coordination with medical oncology, radiation oncology, and other specialists for a multidisciplinary plan.

Some patients benefit from chemotherapy, radiation, or both before or after surgery, depending on stage and tumor location. Those decisions are made in coordination with medical and radiation oncology when indicated.

Whenever appropriate, we use minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopic and, when indicated, robotic-assisted approaches to complete the same oncologic goals as open surgery. The best approach depends on your anatomy, prior operations, and overall health.

Recovery varies with the extent of surgery, whether a stoma is needed, and your baseline health. Your team will discuss expected hospital stay, activity limits, diet progression, and follow-up before and after the operation.
