Thyroidectomy

Thyroidectomy Services
Columbia Surgical Specialists - General Surgery provides thyroidectomy (thyroid removal) for a variety of conditions including thyroid cancer, benign thyroid nodules, goiter, and hyperthyroidism. Our experienced surgeons work closely with endocrinologists to provide comprehensive care for thyroid conditions, performing both total and partial thyroidectomy procedures.
Our evaluation includes a comprehensive review of your medical history, physical examination, and review of imaging and laboratory studies. We utilize ultrasound, fine-needle aspiration biopsy, and other diagnostic tools to accurately diagnose thyroid conditions. We work in collaboration with endocrinologists to determine the most appropriate treatment approach, which may include surgery, medical management, or observation.
We perform both total and partial (lobectomy) thyroidectomy using meticulous techniques to preserve important structures including the recurrent laryngeal nerves and parathyroid glands. We utilize advanced techniques including nerve monitoring to help protect vocal cord function. Our surgeons are experienced in managing complex cases including large goiters, thyroid cancer requiring neck dissection, and revision thyroid surgery. Most patients can go home the same day or following day after surgery.
