Columbia Surgical Specialists - General Surgery provides expert surgical repair of all groin hernias, including inguinal and femoral hernias. These hernias occur when tissue, such as fat or part of the intestine, protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles in the groin area. We discuss the risks and benefits of surgical repair versus watchful waiting and help patients understand when surgery is recommended. For most patients with symptomatic hernias or hernias that are enlarging, surgical repair is recommended to prevent complications.
