Gallbladder

Gallbladder Services
Columbia Surgical Specialists - General Surgery provides laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) for patients with gallstones, gallbladder inflammation (cholecystitis), and other gallbladder conditions. Gallbladder removal is one of the most common general surgery procedures and is typically performed using minimally invasive techniques.
Our evaluation includes a review of your symptoms, physical examination, and imaging studies such as ultrasound or CT scan to confirm the diagnosis and assess the gallbladder condition. We discuss the procedure, expected recovery, and dietary considerations after surgery. Most patients can have their gallbladder removed laparoscopically, which offers significant advantages over open surgery.
We perform laparoscopic cholecystectomy using advanced minimally invasive techniques, typically through four small incisions. This approach results in less pain, faster recovery, shorter hospital stay, and minimal scarring compared to traditional open surgery. Most patients go home the same day or the following day and can return to normal activities within a week. We are experienced in managing complex cases including acute cholecystitis, common bile duct stones, and cases requiring conversion to open surgery when necessary.
